I love working with people who are committed to their students and their communities. Here are some of the main things that I support in consulting engagements.
“College Material” Professional Learning Series
This is the main work that I do. It’s seven hours of learning, collaborating, and planning designed to help educators cultivate college aspirations and self-efficacy in students who may have already foreclosed on their college dreams or are on the fence about continuing. Too many of our young people have been told for too long that they are not “college material”, and too many of us believe that “because I told you to” is a good enough reason for a young person to go to college. The “College Material” Professional Learning Series introduces educators to the College Motivations Compass and helps them think about ways to adapt our content to their unique context so that students can engage as their most authentic selves. This training is meant to be delivered in 6 sessions but can be adapted to a full-day in-service or any other format.
Leadership Coaching for Equitable Student Outcomes
Building or sustaining a productive work environment where people feel valued and excited to collaborate is tough work. So is driving for equitable student outcomes. Putting these two together? That’s where a thought partner comes in handy. I work with K12 and Higher Ed leaders and leadership teams to build time-bound plans for organizational growth and development towards a positive and affirming professional culture that also prioritizes equitable student outcomes.
Custom-Built & Equity-Based Program Evaluation and Monitoring Systems
I began my career as an educator under the blunt “equity” tool of standardized testing. So I have always pushed my colleagues to go beyond the cutoff scores and inadequate year-to-year comparisons to zero in on equity-focused goals that center students and make sense in our specific context. Holding ourselves accountable to such customized goals has meant teaching myself increasingly sophisticated tools to build and automate program implementation and evaluation. If your team needs a custom solution for ongoing and formative progress monitoring that can be easily customized, edited, and navigated in-house, I’d be honored to build it for you using the tools you have at your disposal (or I can recommend other tools that will work more effectively).
